Let's Play is a Trans+ well-being dance project that uses props and dance games to initiate movement. It is a dance space that invites participants to play and experiment with movement in a pressure-free, held and caring space. In the class we use a series of props - scarves and ribbon sticks, upcycle item into dance objects such as clothes, toilet rolls and cardboard boxes to ground the experience, transform space and find joy in movement.
Inspired by Aaron Trammel's book on Repairing Play: A Black Phenomenology (Playful Thinking). Ashley developed Let's Play with a focus on questioning who gets to play? How can we recentre play through trans+ experiences? How can we transfer power in a dance class structure and what should dance look like?
"We must play together in a web of mutual aid, supporting ones through both challenging and joyful times" - Aaron Trammel from Repairing Play
