ABOUT

Welcome to my About page! Here I mention my journey, who I am, what I do and why.
Born and raised in Malaysia, I started my journey into movement at a young age starting with ballet and dancing in my living room. It brought me to a dimension where I could express myself in a different way, I furthered my studies in dance at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), Singapore graduating in 2019 with a Diploma in Dance training rigorously in various styles including Malay dance. I was introduced to teaching disabled children which sparked my interest in working with them as I was drawn to challenging dance aesthetic norms.
Moving on to London to complete my BA(Hons) in Contemporary Dance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. After graduation, Isabelle Long and I were awarded the Trinity Laban’s Innovation Award 2022 to continue challenging dance aesthetic norms and the way a dance class should be.

Alongside setting up Transcendance, I furthered exploring my facilitating dance practice by studying a Master's in Dance Leadership and Community Practice at Trinity Laban to further my development towards becoming a highly-skilled and effective teaching artist with the ability to lead creative, responsively inclusive and holistically safe dance activities with diverse participants.
Throughout my journey as an artist, I developed a style of moving which is inspired by contemporary, KRUMP and hip-hop which creates a style that focuses on groove, tension, explosion and fluidity. It is music driven but the movement and music are in constant play with each other. Co-existing and playing, none above or below.
My practice involves investigating my experience existing and resisting the current injustice system. While reimagining and creating alternative ways of being and interacting. In addition, I explore the experience of joy and liberation that comes through community, sharing experiences of frustration, anger, and agency. Under Chisenhale Dance Space Greenhouse Residency. I was able to work on a piece called Let Me Die and Bring Me Back To Life. In which I tell a story with my body about what it means to be resilient as a disabled queer global majority body in britian. Which was an interactive solo performance that the audiences experience the joy and love of dance and connection that could possibly heal us all.
Alongside performing and creation, I organise with local communities to keep each other safe and host movement classes for Trans+ & Trans+ Global Majority people to exist, connect to their bodies and to each other called, Let's Play!
I am a performer and a facilitator set out to share experiences of connection and agency with care & disability homes, community centres, festivals, gyms and schools.
I have worked with organisations and artists such as Chisenhale Dance Space, Queer Cosy Club, WeAreSensoria, Elena Hilgert, Southbank Centre, COMMUN, LGBTQ+ Centre, Sia Gbamoi, Kyra Mills, Divya Katsuri, Fubunation, Ezekiel Oliveira, Ming Poon, Madam Lim Fei Shen, SLiDE, Embrace Space, Centre of Development for People with Disabilities and more. I have collaborated with various artists who practice music, poetry, visual art and film.
